Bringing Your Best Self Forward

In 2026, I want to bring my best self forward.

This isn’t about being critical of myself or dwelling on what I didn’t do. It’s also not about celebrating accomplishments or patting myself on the back. Instead, it’s about recognizing the moments when I showed up well in 2025, when my words, actions, and presence reflected who I want to be, and choosing to expand those moments in the year ahead.

I’m not interested in changing myself for the sake of change. I also don’t believe a great deal of change is needed. What feels more meaningful is building on what already worked, the qualities I leaned into, the choices that felt aligned rather than forced, and the moments when I trusted myself and the direction unfolding in front of me. Those moments offer valuable insight into what my best self looks like in real life.

So, how did my best self show up in 2025?

I recognized that my depth of experience could be a meaningful resource to nonprofit organizations, and I said yes to taking on additional board responsibilities. I trusted my capabilities and remained open to business opportunities that weren’t part of my original plan, opportunities that ultimately led to new and unexpected revenue streams.

So how will I allow this reflection to guide me toward my best self in 2026?

First, by continuing to be open. I will remain open to new opportunities to serve my broader community, but only when there is true alignment between my expertise, my enthusiasm, and the needs of the organization. Openness, for me, is not about saying yes to everything. It’s about discernment.

Second, by continuing to trust the path that leads me forward. My mantra for 2026, “Trust first and always.”  I will listen for direction, watch for signs, and stay aware of what is unfolding around me, rather than trying to control every outcome. I will still have a plan, intention matters, but I will hold it loosely. When a path opens, I will pay attention and follow it thoughtfully.

I invite you to pause for a few minutes and reflect on how you can bring your best self forward in 2026.

Look back on the past year and notice the moments when you were different, a different attitude, a different mindset, a different way of thinking or interacting with others. When were you at your best?

Now imagine carrying that forward into the new year. Don’t overthink it, and don’t turn it into a resolution. Sometimes the most meaningful reminders are simple, a Post-it note on your desk, a vision board, or even a screen saver that quietly brings you back to what matters most.

Bringing your best self forward isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about honoring what already works and choosing, again and again, to lead with intention, trust, and presence, one moment at a time.
